Press Release: SVU Board Commends President Bonnie H. Cordon as Leadership Transition Begins
The Board of Trustees expresses deep gratitude to President Bonnie H. Cordon for her devoted service as Southern Virginia University’s 10th president. As her three-year term concludes at the end of this academic year, we join the campus community in recognizing her leadership and the foundation she has helped strengthen.
During her presidency, President Cordon led Southern Virginia University with clarity, conviction, and a deep commitment to its mission, students, and campus community. Her leadership strengthened the university’s academic foundation, reinforced its identity as a Christ-centered, faith-based institution, and expanded opportunities for student development through leadership, service, and meaningful campus engagement.
President Cordon has also championed university athletics as an integral extension of the SVU experience, emphasizing the development of student-athletes grounded in faith, discipline, teamwork, and leadership. Across campus, she fostered a culture of gathering and belonging, encouraging students to lift one another, build confidence, and prepare for lives of purpose and discipleship.
“President Cordon has led Southern Virginia University with care, integrity, and a genuine commitment to our students and mission,” said board chair Wendy Kimber. “We are sincerely grateful for her leadership, and encourage the entire SVU community—past and present—to join us in expressing appreciation for the positive and lasting impact she has made.”
