Dryden Announces Capital Campaign for New Baseball Complex

Buena Vista, Va. — Southern Virginia University VP of Advancement and Development Deidra Dryden announced the launch of a new capital campaign to add a baseball complex to The Fields.

“One of our university goals is to provide a home facility for every team and program,” said Dryden. “Baseball is one of our longest-running teams, and they’ve practiced and competed for more than 25 years without a true home game. With this campaign, we hope to create a home for baseball.”

“We know that several other teams and programs are in a similar situation with comparable challenges, and we plan to address each of those when we have the support of donors for those specific projects,” Dryden continued. “In this case, we are blessed and fortunate to have a generous new donor who felt passionate about supporting baseball in a Christ-centered environment. We are so grateful for their generous gift that enabled us to move forward with this campaign.”

According to Dryden, the baseball complex capital campaign will be managed in three phases, “with each phase beginning once we have the full funding in place to complete that respective phase.”

Phase 1: Project planning and site work

Phase 2: Construction of the field with fencing and dugouts

Phase 3: Addition of amenities such as lighting, seating, and a press box

Southern Virginia University’s baseball program has partnered with Parry McCluer, a local high school, for the past 25 years to use their field for practices and games.

“Limited access to a field creates many scheduling conflicts for baseball players,” explained Dryden. “Having a home baseball field will improve the student-athlete experience—both academically and athletically.”

The new baseball complex will be located just north of Knight Stadium. For updates on Knight Athletics and this specific capital campaign, visit knightathletics.com or follow @svuathletics on Instagram.

“We are excited to take this step toward providing baseball—and ultimately every team and program with a home on campus,” concluded Dryden. “We invite all of Knight Nation to link arms with us and contribute to this exciting campaign.”
