Southern Virginia University to Offer Expedited Knighthood to Alderson Broaddus University Students

Buena Vista, VA— Southern Virginia University and its community offer their empathy and support to the students, faculty, and staff at Alderson Broaddus University at the unfortunate news of the university’s degree conferral revocation.

“We extend our condolences to the Alderson Broaddus community,” said Southern Virginia University Acting President Eric Denna. “As a fellow liberal arts college that abides by Christ-centered principles and values, we want to reach across and offer a helping hand in the ways we are able. Knights and Battlers are similar in spirit, and I hope all AB students going through this unexpected change know there is a place for them here.”

In order to provide support to AB students during this uncertain time, Southern Virginia University would like to offer the following assistance for the 2023-24 academic year:

Expedited Admissions Process. All AB students will receive one-on-one support from a Southern Virginia University admissions counselor and a waived registration deposit. Additionally, the registrar will conduct a proactive course match to ensure students can retain as many of their credits as possible and stay on track for graduation.

ABU Discount-rate Match. In addition to offering tuition at nearly half the cost of AB, Southern Virginia University will match the current discount rate an AB student would have received for the 2023-24 academic year.

Roster Spots for Alderson Broaddus Student-Athletes. Athletic Director Deidra Dryden will work personally with current AB students to place qualified athletes with one of Southern Virginia University’s corresponding athletic programs.

Southern Virginia University is a private, self-reliant, residential university aligned with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its principles and values. Its mission is to gather faithful Latter-day Saints and like-minded students, lift them in intellect, character, and spirituality, and launch them into successful lives and careers.

“We have key similarities with Alderson Broaddus as a faith-based institution with small class sizes and an alcohol-free campus,” said Director of Admissions Kenzie Cox. “In the spirit of loving our neighbor, I want AB students to know that we’ll do everything we can to streamline the admissions process and welcome them with open arms as they seek admission this fall.”
