Welcome to the 2022-23 Academic Year: A Letter from the Chairman and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees

Today, the Chairman and Vice Chair of the Southern Virginia University Board of Trustees issued the following letter:

Dear Southern Virginia University Community,

Welcome to the 2022-23 academic year at Southern Virginia University. We expect this to be another banner year in our history, and we’re thrilled for you to be a part of it.

As a private, self-reliant, residential university that is aligned with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its principles and values, our mission is to gather faithful Latter-day Saints and like-minded students, lift them in intellect, character, and spirituality, and launch them into successful lives and careers. More and more high-caliber students are being drawn to our welcoming campus and inspired mission that combines study and faith (D&C 88:188).

Over the past eight years, our enrollments have nearly doubled. Alongside this unprecedented growth, we’ve also invested in our talented faculty to maintain a 15:1 student-faculty ratio, enabling small classes with caring professors, rigorous academics, and personalized learning. We’ve strengthened our alignment with the Church, partnered with world-leading organizations, and broadened our base of donors and supporters. And this is just the beginning.

We have the leadership, faculty, staff, students, and financial resources to fulfill our mission as we all press forward together in love and unity. We believe and embrace the inspired words of Elder Ronald A. Rasband, which he delivered at the inauguration of President Reed N. Wilcox:

“Much has happened here at Southern Virginia University, and there is much, much more to come.”

Enthusiastically,

Hugh Redd, Chairman of the Board of Trustees
Ann Christensen, Vice Chair of the Board of the Trustees
