Sophomore Katie Garish Named to DIII 2019 All-American Team

SALEM, Va.—Sophomore center Katie Garrish today was named to the 2019 All-American Second Team via D3Hoops.com. She is the University’s first All-American in its NCAA Division-III era.

“This is a tremendous honor—I could not have accomplished this without the hard work of the coaching staff and my teammates,” said Garrish. “My team and coaches helped me get in a position to be successful this season.”

“We came in each day with the desire to push each other and improve as individuals and as a team.” Garrish continued. “I am grateful to have a great team behind me that I call my family.”

Garrish was the driving force behind the program’s historic 21-6 season which included a 15-game winning streak and a second-place finish in the Capital Athletic Conference—the Knights’ highest finish since joining the CAC in 2013.

In addition to All-American honors, Garrish’s strong play garnished several honors throughout the season including CAC Player of the Week (5x), USBWA National Player of the Week, CAC Player of the Year, and Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team.

During the 2018-19 season, the Annandale High School graduate led all of Division III with 22 double-doubles on the season as she averaged 17.6 points, 3.37 blocks (led Division III), 14 rebounds (ranking fifth nationally) and 2.1 steals per game for the Knights.

Garrish’s season also included career highs in points against Shenandoah (30), rebounds against Penn State-Harrisburg (24), and the programs first ever 20-20 game in the CAC Championship against Christopher Newport with 24 points and 22 rebounds.

“I am extremely proud of what Katie has accomplished this season,” said Head Coach Adam Wardenburg. “There are not many players in the country that put in the work Katie did this year and it showed. Her accomplishments reflect what we did as a team this year. We set out to be a championship team with a commitment to be as good as we could be every day.”
