Spring 2018 Graduation Announcement and Schedule

The University’s 2018 Graduation Ceremonies will be held Friday, May 4, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the front of Main Hall. The change to Fridays will allow for greater involvement of our student body at graduation and will also allow some potential speakers to be with us who otherwise may not be able to come.

This will be a permanent change to a weekday in the University’s Calendar, notes Provost Scott Dransfield. “Our intent is to allow our student body to be on campus, experience the graduation speakers, as well as participate in the sendoff of our senior class.”

A poll conducted among this year’s graduating seniors indicated that Friday the 4th was favored over Saturday the 5th for holding commencement exercises, according to Cameron Crowther, executive director of career development.

Due to the need for increased seating capacity to accommodate our growing enrollment, commencement exercises in the future will likely move to the Knight Arena. This will improve sound quality and enable the use of superior audiovisual technology. The University Cabinet also advised President Wilcox on these changes.

The Office of the Provost and the Registrar’s Office will reschedule finals as necessary to accommodate the new commencement time.

If needed, the University will arrange to cover change fees for family members who need to change tickets in order to attend graduation.
