Southern Virginia University Remembers President Monson

Southern Virginia University joins others across the world today in mourning the passing of Thomas S. Monson, President and Prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We express our love and appreciation for the example, leadership, and service of President Monson and the blessing he has been in all our lives.

“We express our feelings of sympathy to his family, and deep appreciation for his leadership, love, lengthy service and kind example,” University President Reed N. Wilcox said. “As an exceptionally capable, kind and caring Apostle, President and Prophet, he has been a living model of a Leader Servant and a true disciple of Jesus Christ.”

“Likewise, we would like to express our continuing support for the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as they continue to lead the Church forward.”

The Church announced that President Monson, known for his unwavering commitment to service, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at the age of 90 surrounded by his family. He served as president of the Church since 2008, and served as an apostle since 1963, when he was just 36 years old.
