Institute Instructor to Speak at Devotional Sept. 20

Dr. Matthew Rasmussen, a full-time instructor at the Buena Vista Institute of Religion, will give a devotional address titled “Let the Consequence Follow” on Friday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center at Southern Virginia University.

Rasmussen previously served as a full-time seminary instructor and seminary principal prior to accepting his position at the Buena Vista Institute of Religion in 2011. He has worked for the Church Educational System for 10 years.

He received a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Utah, and both a master’s degree and a doctorate in history from the University of Lancaster in Lancashire, England. He received the Gerald E. Jones Best Dissertation Award from the Mormon History Association in 2011.

He served as a full-time missionary for two years in the England Manchester Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He and his wife, Jessica, live in Buena Vista, Va., and have four children.

Community members and Southern Virginia faculty, staff and students are invited to hear forum and devotional speakers each Friday morning at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center. Recordings of past forum and devotional speeches may be accessed online.
