Former Mission President to Give Devotional Nov. 15

Jeffry L. Cooley, former mission president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will give a devotional address on Friday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center at Southern Virginia University.

For the past 14 years, Cooley has helped to plan and develop Cooley Station, a 900-acre mixed-use community featuring commercial, retail and residential areas. He previously practiced as a certified accountant for five years.

Cooley has served on the board of directors of both the Arizona Cotton Growers Association and the East Valley Adult Resources Foundation, and on the Advisory Council of the Grand Canyon Council of the Boy Scouts of America in Arizona.

He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Arizona State University.

Cooley served a two-year mission to Brazil as a young man. He also has served in various leadership positions within the Church including bishop, stake president, and mission president of the Church’s Brazil Sao Paulo North Mission.

He and his wife, Melodee, have six children and 12 grandchildren.

Community members and Southern Virginia faculty, staff and students are invited to hear forum and devotional speakers each Friday morning at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center. Recordings of past forum and devotional speeches may be accessed online.
