Emeritus General Authority to Give Devotional April 12

Elder Sheldon Child, emeritus member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will give a devotional address titled “Blessings of the Temple” on Friday, April 12, at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center at Southern Virginia University.

Child served in the First Quorum of the Seventy from April 1998 to October 2008. Before that, he was a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy from April 1996 to April 1998. Child also served as a mission president in New York from 1991 to 1994, as an area authority in the Utah North area from 1995 to 1996, and as president of the Salt Lake Temple from 2008 to 2011.

Child previously served as president of RC Willey Home Furnishings — a home furnishings company with stores in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, and California — where he worked from 1954 to 1995.

He and his wife, Joan, are the parents of six children.

Community members and Southern Virginia faculty, staff and students are invited to hear forum and devotional speakers each Friday morning at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center. Recordings of past forum and devotional speeches may be accessed at online.
