Nuclear Engineer to Give Forum Dec. 7

Kevan Weaver, director of technology development for a Seattle-based nuclear energy company, will give a forum address titled “Science and Religion: Are They Immiscible? (Where Can I Find the Truth?)” on Friday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center at Southern Virginia University.

Weaver works at TerraPower, where he designs advanced nuclear reactors. He also has worked at the Idaho National Laboratory in multiple capacities, including group leader of the Advanced Reactor Design Group, national technical director for the Department of Energy Nuclear Hydrogen Initiative, and technical lead for a joint NASA and Department of Energy space reactor program. Weaver also has authored or co-authored more than 90 publications and technical reports, and has co-authored a textbook on fast spectrum reactors.

Weaver holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and a doctorate in nuclear engineering. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he has served in various callings for the Church such as bishop, seminary teacher, and high priests group leader. He and his wife, Shari, have six children, two of whom are current students at Southern Virginia.

Community members and Southern Virginia faculty, staff and students are invited to hear forum and devotional speakers each Friday morning at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center. Recordings of past forum and devotional speeches may be accessed online.
