Former Area Authority to Speak at Devotional Nov. 30

Ralph W. Hardy Jr., a former member of the Fifth and Sixth Quorums of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will give a devotional address titled “Decide to Decide” on Friday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center at Southern Virginia University.

Hardy served in the Fifth and Sixth Quorums of the Seventy of the Church from 2000 to 2011. He currently is chairman of the Church’s Washington, D.C., Public Affairs Advisory Committee.

Hardy is a senior partner in the Washington and Atlanta firm of Dow Lohnes PLLC, where he has practiced law since 1968. He is a member of the State Bar of California, as well as the District of Columbia Bar. He specializes in telecommunications, mergers and acquisitions, energy matters, and government relations. He also is principal operating officer at First Media companies.

He received a bachelor’s degree from University of Utah and a juris doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law.

He has served in a number of organizations, including service on the board of trustees of the National Interfaith Cable Coalition and of Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndromes Foundation, and as founding chairman of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society — an international association of 15,000 Latter-day Saint attorneys. He is a member of the National Advisory Council of the University of Utah.

In addition to his service as an area authority, Hardy has served the Church in callings including bishop, stake president, and full-time missionary. He and his wife, Carole, have four children and ten grandchildren, and reside in Potomac, Md.
