Congressman Goodlatte to Speak at Forum Oct. 19

Congressman Bob Goodlatte, representative of the Sixth Congressional District of Virginia, will give a forum address titled “Our Public Lives” on Friday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center at Southern Virginia University.

Goodlatte has been serving as congressman since 1993; he began his tenth term representing the Sixth Congressional District of Virginia in 2011.

He currently serves on many committees and subcommittees in varying capacities. He is chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property, Competition, and the Internet; and vice chairman of the House Agriculture Committee. He also is an active member of the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security; the Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy and Forestry; and the Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy and Poultry.

Additionally, he is co-chair of the Congressional Internet Caucus and chairman of the House Republican High Technology Working Group.

Before serving in Congress, Goodlatte was district director for former Congressman Caldwell Butler, where he served for two years, and later founded his own private law practice in Roanoke, Va.

Goodlatte received a bachelor’s degree in government from Bates College and later graduated from Washington and Lee University School of Law. He and his wife, Maryellen, live in Roanoke and have two children.

Community members and Southern Virginia faculty, staff and students are invited to hear forum and devotional speakers each Friday morning at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center. Recordings of past forum and devotional speeches can be accessed online.
