Professor Arogyasami to Speak at Devotional Feb. 18
Josephine Arogyasami, professor of biology at Southern Virginia University, will give a devotional address entitled, “From South India to Southern Virginia — A Way Prepared by the Lord,” Friday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center.
Arogyasami began teaching at Southern Virginia in 1998. Prior to this, she taught at Westmar University — where she held several teaching and administrative positions, including vice president of academic affairs and academic dean. Previously, she also taught in various medical and liberal arts colleges in Madras, India. She has published numerous medical articles and designed and supervised several undergraduate research projects.
In 1983, she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and when the very first branch of the Church was established in Madras, India, she was the first relief society president.
Classes she teaches at Southern Virginia include: biological concepts, general zoology, human physiology, and biology of women. She also supervises travel study trips to India.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Holy Cross College, two master’s degrees from the University of Madras, India, and a doctorate in zoology from Brigham Young University.
Arogyasami has two children, Susan and Roy. She currently resides in Lexington, Va.
