Orchestra and Choir to Present Easter Concert at D.C. Temple Visitors’ Center
The Southern Virginia University Orchestra and Concert Chorale will present an Easter concert at the Washington D.C. Temple Visitors’ Center on Easter Sunday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend, free of charge.
Dr. LaRae Carter, music program coordinator and director of Concert Chorale, is thrilled about the opportunity to share sacred music focusing on the atonement and resurrection of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
“This is a serious concert commemorating the crucifixion and resurrection of the Savior, and ultimately, the Atonement,” Carter said. “We hope audience members will go away with a renewed reverence for his sacrifice for us.”
The choir and orchestra will perform selections from “The Redeemer” — an oratorio about the birth, ministry and atonement of Jesus Christ, with text from scripture. In addition, the program will include two hymns and “Holy Radiant Light,” a piece from the Russian liturgical tradition by composer Alexander Gretchaninoff.
According to Carter, this concert will be a wonderful experience not only for the audience, but for members of the choir and orchestra.
“We’re grateful for the opportunity to reach a wider audience,” Carter said. “The students always welcome an opportunity to sing at the Temple. It’s a sacred experience for them as well as a musical one; they have the opportunity to express their testimonies in music and in words.”
