Mormonism in Western Society Topic of Forum April 8

Fred Gedicks, Guy Anderson Chair and Professor of Law at Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, will give a forum address entitled, “Mormonism in Western Society: Three Futures,” Friday, April 8, at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center at Southern Virginia University.

Gedicks has taught courses in constitutional law and freedom of religion for more than 20 years. He has lectured in the United States and Europe on religion and its place in the American legal and social order. He has published more than 50 articles in leading law journals on topics such as law and religion, constitutional law, and constitutional interpretation. He also has published two books. Previously, he practiced corporation and securities law in Phoenix, Ariz.

Additionally, he has received several teaching awards and has been a visiting professor at the law schools of the University of Denver, the University of Milan, Italy, the University of Notre Dame, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Siena, Italy, and the University of Utah.

Gedicks received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Brigham Young University and a juris doctorate from the University of Southern California — where he was an editor of the law review.

He was raised in New Jersey and Southern California. He is a dual citizen of the United States and Canada and speaks Italian fluently.

Community members and Southern Virginia faculty, staff and students are invited to hear forum and devotional speakers each Friday morning at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center. Recordings of past forum and devotional speeches may be accessed online.
