Southern Virginia’s 142nd Commencement on May 1

On Saturday, May 1, at 10:00 a.m., friends, family and graduates of Southern Virginia University will gather on the lawn of historic Main Hall to celebrate the 142nd Commencement Exercises.

Elder Robert C. Gay, a member of the Sixth Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be the featured speaker, giving counsel to the graduating class of nearly 125. Gay is chief executive officer and managing director of Huntsman & Gay Capital Partners, LLC. Along with pursuing a varied business career, Gay has taught economics at Harvard University.

Student speakers will include co-valedictorians David Haws, majoring in politics, and Bryce Pendleton, double majoring in art and politics; salutatorian Megan Ondricek; and Ricardo Jensen, whose address was chosen by audition. The Southern Virginia Chamber Choir will provide stirring music. Graduates and their guests are invited to join with the faculty and staff of Southern Virginia at a reception in the Stoddard Center after the recessional.

In case of rain, commencement will be held in the Knight Sports Arena.
