Cy Twombly: The Ceiling, an exhibition documenting the creation and installation of Cy Twombly’s mural painting within the Louvre Museum, is open from September 6 through October 8.

Twombly was commissioned to create a permanent installation for the ceiling of the Salle des Bronzes gallery in the Louvre. The mural covers more than 3,700-square-feet and was unveiled in March 2010.

Southern Virginia University art professor, Barbara Crawford, assisted and helped with the large-scale work. Crawford will be the participating artist on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 5:30 p.m. in room 2018 of Washington and Lee’s Wilson Hall to discuss her experience.

The exhibit is being showcased in Lykes Atrium at Wilson Hall. It is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The generous support of the William Hollis Visiting Art Fund has made the exhibit possible.

Admission is free for the exhibit and the lecture. Local community members and Southern Virginia faculty, staff and students are encouraged to view the exhibit and hear first-hand from an artist who helped with the mural.
