Southern Virginia University’s second annual Alumni Blue, White & Gold Scramble Golf Tournament will be held Friday, Oct. 8, at the Vista Links Golf Course in Buena Vista, Virginia.

All proceeds from the tournament will go to support the Southern Virginia University athletics program with the goal to purchase a scoreboard for The Fields, for football, lacrosse and soccer competitions.

The four-person team scramble tournament begins with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. Festivities will include an 18-hole golf tournament with golf carts, hole prizes, team awards and snacks.

Price for participation in the scramble is $60 per individual golfer who will then be assigned a team or $220 per team sign up. On Oct. 8, there will be a 1:00 p.m. late registration available.

Blue, white and gold refers to the different colored tee markers teams will play from on each hole, depending on their performance on the previous hole.

All teams will begin on the white tees. But the tournament will get interesting when the teams who birdie the first hole must play the next hole from the more challenging blue tees, while those who bogey are forced to play the second hole from the gold tees — closer to the pin.

This pattern will continue through all 18 holes; if a team birdies from the gold tees, they will move back to the white tees where they began; if they bogey from the blue tees they move forward to the white tees, and so on. Bogeys will move a team forward, birdies will move a team back and pars will keep teams where they are.

The tournament is available to alumni, students, staff, faculty, parents and friends of the university. To register, please contact Brian Pendleton at 540–261–8425 or brian.pendleton@svu.edu.
