The Southern Virginia University Flute Choir, under the direction of Launa Whitehead, will present a concert, “Sounds of Spring,” on Thursday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ballroom. All are invited, free of charge, to join in a musical hour heralding this welcome, long-awaited spring.

This distinctive flute ensemble consists of six students playing not only the more familiar C flute, but also the tiny piccolo, the stouter alto flute and the unusual large, curved bass flute. They will perform a medley of familiar tunes by the famous Russian composers Mussorgsky, Borodin and Rimsky-Korsakov. Bohemian and Spanish folk dances round out the program, along with a programmatic work called “Under the Big Top,” which portrays children enjoying the delights of a visit to the circus.
