Elder Robert C. Gay to Speak at 2010 Commencement

Southern Virginia University today announced that Elder Robert C. Gay will be the university’s commencement speaker on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 10 a.m.

Elder Gay was named a member of the Sixth Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 5, 2008.

Elder Gay received a bachelor of arts degree in economics and statistics from the University of Utah in 1976. In 1982, he received a Ph.D. in business economics from Harvard University. Currently, he is the chief executive officer and managing director of Huntsman & Gay Capital Partners, LLC. Previously, he worked for 16 years as a managing director at Bain Capital. He also has worked for GE Capital and McKinsy & Company, and has been an instructor in economics at Harvard University.

Elder Gay has served in numerous Church callings, including full-time missionary in Spain, ward mission leader, high priest group leader, gospel doctrine teacher, ward Young Men president, high councilor, bishop’s counselor and mission president.

Robert Christopher Gay was born in Los Angeles, California, on September 1, 1951. He married Lynette Nielsen in April 1974. They are the parents of seven children. Elder and Sister Gay reside in Wellington, Florida.
