Concert Pianist to Honor Schumann in Piano Recital
This Wednesday, March 3, at 7:00 p.m. in the ballroom Southern Virginia University and local community members will have the privilege of listening to the brilliant, stirring piano artistry of Lise Keiter. She will honor the 200th anniversary of the birth of composer Robert Schumann by performing music of Schumann and his wife Clara, as well as selections by Beethoven and Brahms.
Keiter has performed nationwide as a solo recitalist, collaborative artist and soloist with orchestra. In 1998, she was awarded a fellowship to study at the Internationale Academie de Musique in Gargenville, France. In 2006, she returned to France to perform two concerts as part of the International Roussel Festival. Recently Keiter performed Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Waynesboro Symphony Orchestra.
Currently the music department chair at Mary Baldwin College, Keiter joined the faculty there in the fall of 1998. In 2005, she developed an all-women composers program of solo piano works celebrating the bicentenary year of pianist and composer Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel. This highly popular recital has become her most-requested program, and she has performed it over a dozen times to date. During sabbatical leave in 2008 she returned to the women composers’ project in a series of recitals, lectures and master classes throughout the United States.
Frequently called upon as a lecturer, adjudicator and master class clinician, Keiter presents at conferences on regional and national levels.
Originally from Charleston, Illinois, Keiter has a Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory. She completed a master’s degree and a Doctorate of Music at Indiana University, where she also received the Award for Outstanding Teaching.
