New Café to Open Friday
Southern Virginia University will open a new café, Jonzzey’s, in the remodeled student center Friday, Feb. 6, at 11:45 a.m.
Jonzzey’s will serve a variety of made-to-order wraps, Panini’s, smoothies and milkshakes. Students on one of the university’s meal plans will be able to use their ID cards to purchase a Jonzzey’s meal consisting of a wrap or Panini, soft drink and a bag of chips. Cash also will be accepted and there are plans to accept debit and credit card purchases in the near future.
Normal operating hours are Mon.-Thurs. 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Fri. 11:45 to 10:00 p.m. and Sat. noon to 10:00 p.m. The university will monitor peak usage times and either increase of cut back on the hours of operation to accommodate demand.
“Now we provide the choice of eating lunch and dinner in the dining hall or in the café,” said Scott Y. Doxey, chief operations and systems office at Southern Virginia. “We are thrilled to offer our students, faculty and staff another option for dining on campus.”
The café was named by a donor who gave the university much of the kitchen equipment used behind the counter along with the chairs and tables used in the eating area.
