Alumna Appointed Registrar

Southern Virginia University this week announced the appointment of alumna Whitney Larsen as the university’s registrar.

Larsen, who has worked in the Registrar’s Office since 2006, has served for the past year as associate registrar. She also worked previously in important administrative roles at Southern Virginia’s Von Cannon library and also for the Buena Vista Institute of Religion for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“Whitney has performed very well as associate registrar because she knows how important a well run Registrar’s Office is to students, faculty and staff,” said Paul Edwards, Southern Virginia’s executive vice president and provost. “She has a tireless work ethic and knows how to get the job done. During this past year she has made many process improvements that help ensure accuracy of and improved access to our academic records.”

In her capacity as registrar Larsen is responsible to see that the university provides efficient and secure registration processes. She maintains the integrity of academic records and counsels with students about their progress towards graduation. As registrar Larsen also will serve on the university’s academic affairs council, academic exceptions committee and curriculum committee.

Another alumna, Sue Gilmer, has been hired as an assistant to the registrar. Gilmer, who graduated in June, also brings with her a strong commitment to excellent student service.

“Whitney and Sue, along with other employees in the Registrar’s Office, know the university and its academic offerings from their firsthand experience as students,” Provost Edwards said. “We love working with talented professionals — and it’s made all the better when we knew them first as students.”
