SVU’s Fifth Annual Art Show and Sale
The Shenandoah Invitational, Southern Virginia University’s annual art show and sale, will be held 11 April at 6:30 p.m. in Falls Church, Va.
Each year professional artists from around the world are invited by Southern Virginia to submit original paintings and sculptures for competition and sale. In addition to viewing exceptional art, guests are treated to an evening of entertainment by Southern Virginia’s Chamber Choir and other special musical guests. This year concert violinist Jenny Oaks Baker will perform.
“This event is a first-class affair,” said Dr. Richard Whitehead, vice president of Institutional Advancement. “It attracts some of the finest artists in the world, the finest people in Washington, and helps the finest students. It’s an evening not to be missed.”
Latter-day Saint artists Del Parson, A.D. Shaw, Glen Hopkinson and Nancy Lund are among those who have participated in the competition every year since its beginning in 2004. Other notable artists include P. Buckley Moss, famous for her watercolor scenes of Amish and Mennonite culture in the Eastern United States; Antal Goldfinger, a photo realist painter from Hungary who was trained in the style of Europe’s old masters; and Jerry Anderson, a master sculptor whose work is on display in private, corporate and government collections.
This spring the show will also welcome established painters such as George Mark England, Robert A. Call, Robin Caspari and Sandra Rast.
Richard and Nancy Marriott host the art show each year. The event is held in the grand ballroom of the Fairview Park Marriott Hotel, just outside of Washington, D.C. Now in its fifth year, a portion of the purchase price for every piece of art sold is contributed to student scholarships at Southern Virginia.
