Convocation to be Held Friday

Southern Virginia University will hold convocation on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Activity Center. All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend.

Glade Knight, chairman of the board of trustees at Southern Virginia, and Provost Paul Edwards will each address the campus community.

A 35-year veteran of the real estate industry, Mr. Knight has been a highly successful founder, chairman and CEO of several real estate investment trusts. He also is a member of the advisory board to the Graduate School of Real Estate and Urban Land Development at Virginia Commonwealth University. He has served on the National Advisory Council for Brigham Young University and is a founding member of the Center for Entrepreneurship at BYU’s Marriott School of Management.

Provost Edwards has been Southern Virginia’s executive vice president and provost since July 2005. Prior to coming to Southern Virginia, he was president and distinguished research scholar at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. He received his Ph.D. in jurisprudence and social policy from the University of California at Berkeley.

As part of the convocation, three members of the SVU community will receive the Ed and Cheiko Okazaki Distinguished Service Award, which is given each year to a faculty member, staff member and student who demonstrate exemplary leadership and service.
